Barcelona's Javier Mascherano believes club's fortunes will soon improve

Javier Mascherano says that he is confident of Barcelona returning to winning ways after losing three of their last four games. Tito Villanova's side suffered back-to-back defeats to rivals Real Madrid and they were beaten 2-0 away to AC Milan in the Champions League two weeks ago. They still remain 11 points clear at the top of La Liga, but Mascherano has admitted there is still a lot of work to be done. He told AS: "Three weeks ago it seemed like this was a Disney film but now it feels like a horror show. "Three weeks ago Madrid were in crisis and now everything is great for them. We have to recover our style of play if we are to get good results again. "You are obviously not in a good way when you have one or two weeks of bad results, especially when you get knocked out of the Copa del Rey and lose the Clasico, but we cannot dwell on that." The Argentine added: "The best way of lifting ourselves is to think about everything that is still to come this season and to try and be positive. We have to improve in many areas and the only way to do that is by working hard. "We all have to give more to get out of this bad run of results, although there is no need to go crazy either. "We have to remain calm and be humble to find out what has been going wrong and be the same team we were three weeks ago. We all have to give a little more, we're in an unusual situation. "If anyone has doubts about this club, go look at the statistics from the last few years. It is easy to say there is a problem here but these situations make you stronger. "Success, as one coach has said, changes you, it makes you feel that you are better than you really are and these situations make you feel stronger."

Lionel Messi admits he would like to play alongside Wayne Rooney and Gareth Bale

Barcelona star Lionel Messi has hinted he would relish the prospect of playing alongside Wayne Rooney and Gareth Bale.

Rooney was omitted from the Manchester United line-up against Real Madrid on Tuesday, sparking frenzied speculation about his future at Old Trafford.

While Gareth Bale is among the most in-demand players in Europe after scoring 24 goals for club and country so far this season.

And Messi admits he would welcome the chance to play in the same team as either player in the future.

"Wayne Rooney and Gareth Bale are both great players, they are doing so well for their clubs," the 25-year-old Argentine forward told the Daily Mail.

"And I always want to play with the best players.

"I have to be careful what I say because I can't see them leaving their teams soon.

"But, of course, I want to play with the best players.

Lionel Messi believes Barcelona can still progress in the Champions League

Lionel Messi firmly believes that Barcelona have what it takes to overturn a two-goal deficit against AC Milan in the Champions League next week. The Catalan giants have only won one of their last four games and appear to be lacking the usual clinical edge that they so famously possess, but Messi thinks they can regain their best form in time for Tuesday. The dip in form has seen Barcelona lose two El Clasicos as well as an all-important Champions League tie, however, Messi thinks it would be silly to write the Primera Liga leaders off just yet. "It is obvious that we have to do a little more. Lately we have come from a run of defeats and we are aware of what we need to do to change that," said the 25-year-old. "There is a key game coming up for us to react and change things. "To come back is what we all want. We know it will be very difficult, but we believe it's possible. If they can do it there, we can do it here. "We know that if they score a goal it will be more difficult and that Milan have very good players, but we will have our chances." Barcelona are still without manager Tito Vilanova, who is undergoing treatment for cancer, however the Argentinian forward is refusing to use that as an excuse. "It has affected us a lot and I think it has taken its toll when it comes to preparing for each competition, but we have a strong dressing room and I don't think we can put the blame on this situation," added Messi. Argentina's captain also was quick to acknowledge the impressive form of domestic rivals Real Madrid as he watched them advance to the quarter finals of the Champions League after beating Manchester United 3-2 on aggregate. The best player of the world Linoel Messi has warned people to not write down Barcelona and said that the club will do everything in their power to turn around their Champions League last-16 tie with AC Milan.
